After visiting Gyongbokgung Palace, we headed straight to Namdaemun by a subway train Line 1. You can also find different Korean delicacies here and good money changer. Oppa suggested this place for a good price in changing money from USD to KRW.
Since we took a heavy meal breakfast in the hotel, we just decided to eat snack instead of lunch. Oppa suggested to try the famous "hotteok" (호떡 in korean ). It is made from wheat flour, water, milk, sugar, and yeast. The filled dough is then placed on a greased griddle, and pressed flat into a large circle with a special tool with a stainless steel circle and wooden handle as it cooks. Hotteok is usually eaten during the winter season.
I did not know that it is very popular during winter season. People used to fall in line if they want to buy hotteok. There are 2 famous hotteok stores located in Namdaemun, we spotted the first one in Gate 2 and I found the other store when I was walking alone few days passed. They sell 2 kinds of hotteok: Yachae-hotteok야채호떡 (filled with japchae and vegetables) and the other one is the Kkul-hotteok 꿀호떡 (filled with honey, brown sugar, cinnamon and sesame seeds). Each one costs only 1,000 won. Imagine the very long line of people who waited and wanted to eat this food during winter season.
